Splitting of Checks
We apologize but we do not accommodate separate checks for reservations above 4 people. I’m sorry, we do not make exceptions to this policy under any circumstances to be fair to all of our guests. Accordingly, for reservations of 5 people or more we have a one check per table policy. We do, however, allow the splitting of a single check evenly regardless of the number of people. This means that if you have a group of 10 people, we will only accept one credit card payment for the entire table. So if you want to split your check evenly between multiple credit cards, we are happy to accommodate the request.
For our server, processing one check is easier than three, although not that much easier. But when it’s an 8-top, we know how difficult it can be to negotiate who got what and, when one person feels that they did not order the glass of wine on their portion of the bill it becomes very difficult to negotiate who received the glass of wine delivered especially when the person that has already received the glass of wine has already settled their check.
To avoid these types of situations, we find it easier to handle one check per table and split the cost evenly among the people in the party.
Like everyone in the hospitality business, the time dedicated to accounting means time away from providing service to other tables.
Therefore, we kindly request that you inform your group of this policy ahead of time to prevent any inconvenience. For us, it is very difficult for a small restaurant to accommodate large gatherings and when we do, we simply do not have staffing available to dedicate the time necessary to accommodate separate checks. We hope that you understand our position and we appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Given the current staffing climate, the biggest reason for one check per table is labor: Restaurant owners are always trying to save a server time, steps, and stress.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work hard to provide a great dining experience. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please do not hesitate to email us at support@nashobawinery.com
